Sick Heart - Defending a Sin

When a Muslim stops practising and his sins increases, good deeds decreases, Ibadah reduces and Iman starts to fall... here is where the Heart starts becoming hard, to the point that nothing of righteousness touches it anymore.

There are 4 stages of acknowledging a sin. The first stage is when a person has sinned and they feel guilty about it. The second stage is when the person are used to the guilty feeling. The third stage is when you feel good about the sin. The forth stage is when you become a defender of the sin.


When a person is at the fourth stage, their hearts become as hard as a rock. This is when their hearts are filled with diseases like hatred, destructive jealousy, uncontrollable desire(hawa nafsu), arrogance, anger etc. Just look at the peoples of today, do you see such symptoms in them?

A person with a sick heart does not react to the needs of humanity by charity, or offering assistance. He does not care if his brothers and sisters are afflicted with hardship or being stricken by disasters. A sick heart ignores righteousness and are prone to vices.

The person reaches a stage where he feels that his heart has turned into a solid rock that is not affected by anything. Prophet (pbuh) said:

"There is in the body a clump of flesh - if it becomes good, the whole body becomes good and if it becomes bad, the whole body becomes bad. And indeed it is the heart." (Bukhari and Muslim)
