Christian groups in Sabah cried foul on Islamisation

Sabah Christian dad in tears at first sight of daughter in tudung

The father of eight from the Kaiduan village in Kawang lodged a police report on Wednesday after being told by his relative that his daughter was seen in the Muslim headscarf at her school SMK Kinarut.

Christian groups in Sabah have recently cried foul to alleged furtive attempts to convert Bumiputera followers of the faith to Islam.

First of all, let me clarify that the obligation to cover the head of a women is also stipulated in the Bible:

"For if a woman does not cover her head, she might as well have her hair cut off; but if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, then she should cover her head."(1 Corinthians 11:6)

Quote from the above news:
“She was wearing the tudung and showed it to me. I teared up and she looked at me and cried."

Why should the parents be sad when it is also a requirement in Christianity to cover the women head? They should instead be happy because their child has come to her senses of their religion callings.

Secondly, in Islam it is clearly said that, "There's no compulsion in religion"(QS 2:256). Meaning no force or deceitful means are allowed in Islam when inviting a non muslim to the deen. Anyone who resort to force or lies when inviting a non muslim to the deen has disobeyed God's Order and no muslim in the right mind would do such thing and get themselves landed in Hell Fire. Such conversions are not valid in the eyes of God.

There are 2 types of religion conversion in Malaysia. The first is 'Faith Conversion' where one chooses to believe whatever pleases them. The second type is 'Documentation Conversion', where one legal identification documentation goes through a stage of religion changes i.e from Christian to Islam. And Malaysia Laws requires a minor to have their parents consent to convert(documentation) or wait till they are 18 of age.

What transpired in the above news was actually a 'Faith Conversion', where a 16 years old child chooses to have faith in a religion other than her own parental religion, which is Christianity. This could be due to the influence of her surrounding friends, environmental circumstances or the effectiveness of religious preaching(dakwah) etc. It's a freedom of choice that the 16 years old child have. No one can force her to believe in whatever she doesn't believe. Just ask yourself, can someone force you to believe in something that you don't believe?

In the context of Islam in Malaysia, when a person chooses to embrace the deen, they are put in a transitional category called Muallaf for 5 years. Muallaf means a person who has the intent to learn and know more about Islam. In this transitional tenure, they are given the chance to study the Fardhu Ain, Quranic doctrines, Islamic obligations etc. They are also be given financial aid from the Zakat if needed. If they want to start a business, assistance will be provided, financially and professional advisory. And many more...

So you see, there is no need to lure a person with a mere Rm100 to the religion. A Muallaf is given plenty if they chose to migrate to Islam. This is how Islam assist those who have the intent to learn and know more about the deen. And best of all, if one chooses to revert back to their previous faith, they are allowed to do so in this transitional tenure of 5 years.

Due to the reason that the 16 year old child is still a minor(below 18 years old), she cannot be legally converted, meaning she cannot go through the legal identification changes(religion) without the legal consent of her parents. Even if the parents agreed, it will take a lengthy process with lots of paperwork to sign involving the Commissioner of Oath.

In another word, she just changes her perceptions on what she used to believed without any legal attachment. It's just a change of thought. This happens a lot in the rural area esp in the orang asli community, where on one fine day, they will choose to believe Christianity, and the next day they will have faith in Islam and the next week, they will fall back to Christianity, or Athiestism, or Buddhistism, or Hinduism. And the cycle continues...

There're no legal age on 'Faith Conversion'...it's a freedom of choice given by God to humanity. Can you force a five years old to believe that Superman is actually Utraman or Ironman is Peter Parker? The answer is 'NO', not even at gunpoint. This is what happened to the 16 years old Child, when she chooses to believe something other that what her parents believed.

She can choose to revert back to her previous faith, anytime because there's no legal procedures involved. Even if she managed to change her IC status without her parent knowledge, the parents could easily reverted her back due to the reason they are her Guardian. Btw, since when it became a crime for a person or a child to change perceptions? It's just a change of 'thinking' or 'beliefs', for crying out loud.

This happens a lot in the our community, where a person who would believed in Buddha on one fine day will choose to believe in Tua Pek Kong the next day and praying to Latuk Kong the subsequent day. Or when a Christian chooses to become a Protestant. Or when a Hindu chooses to become a Pantheist or Atheist. Is this a Crime?

No, it's not. So why when it comes to Islam, the non muslim are shouting foul play?

Wallahu'alam
