Allah SWT recounts Iblis's disobedience in QS 38: 71-85, when Allah SWT said to the angels: "Truly I am going to create man from clay. So when I have fashioned him and breathed into him (his) soul created by Me, then you fall down prostrate to him." So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them: except Iblis, he was proud with arrogance and was one of the disbelievers.
(Iblis) said: "I am better than him (Adam), You created me from fire, and him You created from clay."
(Allah) said: "0 Iblis, get down from this (Paradise), it is not for you to be arrogant here. Get out, for you are of those humiliated and disgraced." (QS 7: 11-13)
For refusing to abide to God's Order, Iblis was cast out of Heaven and Iblis's vowed for evil revenge. Iblis obtained permission from God and vowed that he would lead all men and women astray to Hell. In this way, he would prove humanity's inferiority, and justify his act of defiance. Although God grants the request, he also warns Satan that he would have no authority over his sincere servants.
(Iblis) said: "My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them on earth, and I will mislead them all, except, among them, Your chosen servants."
(Allah) said: "This (way of My sincere servants) is indeed a way that leads straight to Me. "For over My servants, no authority will you have over them, except those who follow you of the deviators. And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all."
Iblis berkata: " Wahai Tuhanku! Kerana Engkau telah menjadikan daku sesat, (maka) demi sesungguhnya aku akan memperelokkan segala jenis maksiat kepada Adam dan zuriatnya di dunia ini, dan aku akan menyesatkan mereka semuanya, kecuali di antara hamba-hambaMu yang dibersihkan dari sebarang syirik."
Allah berfirman: "Inilah satu jalan yang lurus, yang tetap Aku memeliharanya. "Sesungguhnya hamba-hambaKu, tidaklah ada bagimu sebarang kuasa untuk menyesatkan mereka, kecuali sesiapa yang menurutmu dari orang-orang yang sesat (dengan pilihannya sendiri). Dan sesungguhnya neraka Jahannam itu, tempat yang dijanjikan bagi sekalian mereka (yang menurutmu)."
(QS 15:39 - 43)
"Whom Allah has cursed. For he had said, "I will surely take from among Your servants a specific portion. And I will mislead them, and I will arouse in them sinful desires, and I will command them so they will slit the ears of cattle, and I will command them so they will change the creation of Allah. And whoever takes Satan as an ally instead of Allah has certainly sustained a clear loss."
"Satan promises them and arouses desire in them. But Satan does not promise them except delusion. The refuge of those will be Hell, and they will not find from it an escape."
"Yang telah dilaknat oleh Allah, dan yang telah mengatakan: "Demi sesungguhnya, aku akan mengambil dari kalangan hamba-hambaMu, bahagian yang tertentu (untuk menjadi pengikutku); Dan demi sesungguhnya, aku akan menyesatkan mereka (dari kebenaran), dan demi sesungguhnya aku akan memperdayakan mereka dengan angan-angan kosong, dan demi sesungguhnya aku akan menyuruh mereka (mencacatkan binatang-binatang ternak), lalu mereka membelah telinga binatang-binatang itu; dan aku akan menyuruh mereka mengubah ciptaan Allah". Dan (ingatlah) sesiapa yang mengambil Syaitan menjadi pemimpin yang ditaati selain dari Allah, maka sesungguhnya rugilah ia dengan kerugian yang terang nyata."
"Syaitan sentiasa menjanjikan mereka (dengan janji-janji indah) serta memperdayakan mereka dengan angan-angan kosong; dan apa yang dijanjikan oleh Syaitan itu tidak lain hanyalah tipu daya semata-mata. Mereka itu, tempat akhirnya ialah neraka jahanam, dan mereka pula tidak akan dapat melarikan diri daripadanya."
(QS 4:118 - 121)
